The Effects of Loose-Fitting Dentures

There are three guarantees in life: we’re all going to age, water is essential to our survival, and we all have to pay our taxes. When we get older, we can use magnificent devices like dentures to allow us to look and feel young again! They provide us with a youthful, spirited smile, along with the added convenience of being able to continue chewing our food. Unfortunately, if your pair of dentures begins to loosen, it can leave you with numerous problems.

The Effects of Loose-Fitting Dentures

Loose fitting dentures can be quite detrimental to your oral health. Damaged dentures, or our gum ridges shrinking as we age, can cause this to happen. Here are some of the effects that loose-fitting dentures can have on you:

-They can cause sores to appear in your mouth. If neglected, these untreated sores may develop into precancerous lesions. Because of this risk, oral lesions need a brief examination if they last for more than three weeks.

-Loose dentures make it difficult for people to properly chew their food. One of the signs that you are dealing with loose-fitting dentures is if you are having stomach problems. Since you would no longer be able to properly chew your food, it can cause indigestion.

-It can be difficult to smile or speak properly.

-For partial denture wearers, loose dentures can cause premature wear on adjacent teeth, and could lead to tooth loss.

-Keeping loose dentures in your mouth can also lead to changes in your facial features.

Experts say that you should have your dentures checked by dental care professionals on an annual basis to keep them fitting- and functioning- optimally.

If you have dentures or are dealing with loose-fitting dentures, we can help! Our in-house Denturist, Ricky Kwan can create high-quality dentures or do repairs all at a reasonable price.
